Whenever Gabe and I take a road trip, we make it a point to stop at thrift stores and antique shops on the way, just to see what various towns have to offer. We hit the jackpot a few weeks back when Gabe discovered a sweet little bench underneath a smattering of coffee mugs, kitchen canisters, and folded fabric. (He always looks high and low, over and under at these places, and he is richly rewarded for it.)
It was slim and long and a good height. The rush seat was pretty damaged and ugly, but the wooden frame had a distinct shape to it that was still quite fetching. It was also worthy of improving, which we did in our Padbury Bench. Its made of mindi wood with a hand-tied rush seat, and the turned legs are supported with distinctive turned stretchers.
